Your first journey

Turn a trip into a journal of stories, photos and places. Start small—you can add more whenever you like.

1. Create a journey

  1. Choose Start a journey and sign in with your email. If you already have an account, use the same email to find your journeys.
  2. Create a journey from your trip list. Give it a title, such as “A week in Portugal”, then choose Create journey. Dates are optional, so you can also write about a trip from years ago.
  3. Open the journey to start adding memories. It stays private unless you choose to share it.

2. Add your memories

Have a journey’s worth of photos? Before adding any blocks, choose Open media bin to upload them into All media. Invite companions as editors to add theirs too, wait for everyone’s uploads to finish, then choose Generate from photos. Review the preview and choose Generate journey to create an editable starting point. The Media and storage guide below walks through this flow; generation is image-only and only available on an empty timeline.

Prefer to build it yourself? A journey is made of blocks. Each block holds one part of your story; mix them in whatever order feels right.

  • Add text: write about a day, a meal or a moment you want to remember.
  • Add media: create a Media block for images and videos with captions. You can have more than one Media block in a journey. Video uploads require the person uploading to have Pro; video support is in local development, not deployed yet. See Media and storage for limits and playback details.
  • Add section: give a new part of the journal a heading, such as “Day two” or “The coast”. Sections also help readers jump to a chapter.
  • Add travel: show a route between places, with stops along the way and an optional caption. Choose Flight, Train, Car, Boat, Walk or Other to describe how you travelled.

3. Put places on the map

In a travel block, search for a place by typing its name and pressing Enter or Search. Choose a result, then add the other places along your route. Reorder stops if your plans change.

Use the zoom buttons to take a closer look, or Fit route to bring the whole route back into view. Car routes follow suggested roads when available; other travel routes are illustrations. Maps are for telling your story, not turn-by-turn navigation or proof of the exact route you took.

4. Arrange and save

Open Edit to change an existing journey. Move blocks to tell the story in your own order. Adding or changing dates does not rearrange your memories.

Changes save automatically while you are connected. Check that saving has finished before closing the page. Media uploads and video processing need time to finish too.

If you lose your connection, keep the editor open. Local drafts may help recover unsent text and field changes on the same device, but they are not a backup or a full offline mode. Adding, deleting, reordering and uploading need a connection.

5. Read it—and share when you are ready

Leave Edit to read your journal. A single image or video appears inline; multiple items appear as tiles that open the lightbox. Videos autoplay when opened in the lightbox, subject to browser playback rules. Use a section heading to jump to another part of the story.

Want someone else to see it? The journey owner can create a view link or invite editors from the sharing controls. You never have to share a journey to keep using it.
